hula hoopin’ styles
Enter youtube & type HULA HOOPING. You will be amazed with the variety of different inspirations, progress documentation videos, performances & artistic acts, tutorials for tricks, weight loss & fitness programs, funny videos, kids videos etc. By this example I want to tell you that HULA HOOPING brings a whole range of possibilities!
Each style of hooping is combined with different type of hoops. Ofcourse it is just a general example, which you can adjust & modify, while progressing with your skills. However I thought to give you some geneal image, a short condensed guide. I have a video for you, which I made to collect the styles in one place & create a shortcut guide to different styles.
Take a look below at my recommendations for choosing a hula hoop, depending on the style you are interested in. However, remember that this is an indicative beginner’s guide, not the ultimate and only right choice! When you start spinning and find your own path in hula hooping, you will be switching between a variety of hoops and choose one depending on the day and mood…yes, believe me – when you begin, you will definitely not end up with one hula hoop in your collection….
Regarding the video:
HOOP DANCE for the beginning dance, adult size, beginner hoops PE, HDPE, polypro >85cm, but as you keep spinning you will like to check out also the lighter hoops, such as polypro around 80cm, or even less.
WEIGHT LOSS bigger, mama size, weighted hoops, beginner adult size hoops. PE, HDPE 90-120cm or even more, depends on your body type
NINJA OF TRICKS light weighted, ultraspeed, tricky hula hoops, such as polypro, HDPE, LED hoops, size depends on your skills & needs, but usually speed ninjas are using small hoops 60-80cm
SPIRITUAL FLOW whatever feels right here…but if we are talking about a dance, twirling, spinning around with your beautifull hoop, than I would suggest a medium weighted, adult size dance hoop, PE 90cm, or HDPE, polypro, LED bigger size
TWIN HOOPS here you can go creative, as you can do mini twins, around 45-60cm, same as medium size 65-80cm polypro, HDPE, LED hoops. depends on your style & preferences. I wouldn’t go for big size hoops here.
FITNESS GYM oh yes, let’s rock that gym baby. focused on fitness style you would grab an adult size fitness hoop, around 500-800g, 90-110cm so that you are able to perform supported fitness exercises, as well as stable spinning.
MINI HOOPING mini hoops, around 45-60cm, rather light, polypro, hdpe, aluminium hoops! some of the kiddy size hoops are perfect for it & on a budget
MULTI HOOPING rather light weighted hoops, as you have to manage them all at the same time. performance hoops 70-90cm, polypro, hdpe, LED hoops, skinny hoops
or simply HAVING FUN any hoop that you like, if you like to rock in a dancy, flow mood, grab the PE, HDPE or polypro dance hoop, mixing it with tricks up to 100cm. but if you prefer sticking more to the tricks, manipulations, than grab a smaller hoop like polypro 60-85cm
If you would like to see it the other way, check out the table below:
When you’re a newbie to hula hooping & you are wondering which hoop would be best for you, than this is a great point to start. Check it out, as an inspiration, an overview. If you already know that what interests you the most would be beginning with the basics, on-body spinning, like waist hooping, than check out the video explaining HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR FIRST HULA HOOP.
